For week 9 of #ds106 I was tasked with re-working 2 past assignments. The first assignment I re-worked can be found here: The second Assignment I chose to re-work is Dear Mama Nara. I completed this writing assignment during Week 4 of this semester; the requirements and prompt can be found under the 3 star assignment Your love for you pet. Summary: Make a collage out of photos of your pet (or your favorite animal)! Either take past photos or take photos throughout the week that show how cute or how funny they can be!
Behind the Work
I said it in the original blog post for this assignment and I’ll say it again: My cat is my best friend. As my ESA, I spend a lot of time with her… she follows me everywhere even outside. But, I love it. When I first completed this assignment I used Superimpose and had no knowledge of GIMP, Krita, or Canva. Now that I do, I want to fancy up Nara’s collage to make it even more special.
During the Work

The reworked collage:
I decided to scrap the original collage altogether and select a few photos of Nara that I think capture her spirit the most. She is a super sassy but sweet girl, she’s so calm and loving. I then went to Canva and chose a poster I liked the most; I chose a fun purple striped poster. She talks A LOT so I decided to include a quote by her, “meow, meow, meow.” I mean, it is what she says most often. Finally I rearranged the text boxes on the poster. After downloading my final product, I uploaded the .jpg to GIMP. All of the pictures of Nara I chose earlier were then uploaded as layers and masked. I’m really happy I re-did this assignment. I liked the original product, but it was really busy. I enjoyed getting to use the design skills I’ve worked on since then.
